Roller Coaster

And our roller coaster ride continues...

Yesterday morning I walked into Kian's room to find a room full of doctors around him.  He wasn't doing well.  He was puffy, his kidney wasn't functioning, his body temperature was low, his heart rate was high, his blood pressure was low...  So he was watched closely all day and many interventions were done.

So far he is thought to have an infection that is taking a toll on him.  Although his blood/urine cultures aren't growing anything and his white blood cell count isn't up too high.  So I have done my research and have diagnosed him myself. :)  (It makes me feel like I'm doing something for him)

My diagnosis is dehydration.  Last week Kian started having very loose stools.  Also, his fontanel was sunken in, his heart rate was high and his temperature was high.  There wasn't too much done about it because he seemed to recover.  Though the loose stool didn't go away.  In the past two days he had the symptoms I described in the above paragraph. I believe he is dehydrated, specifically hypotonic dehydration. In hypotonic dehydration, intravascular water shifts to the extravascular space, exaggerating intravascular volume depletion for a given amount of total body water loss.  This is why Kian is swollen but still intravascularly dry.

Not sure exactly what is causing Kian to be so sick.  Always could be a combination of things.  But please pray for him!  He is struggling and can't have the surgery he needs until he is well.

Today Aunt Nicole is coming to see him!  We are so excited about that.  And next week daddy is going to come back and we hope he will be here for surgery. Thank God for family, friends and all the support we are receiving!  We pray that God continues to take care of Kian and give the doctors guidance.
