Baby Shower

A couple weeks ago my mother-in-law and sister-in-law threw me a fabulous baby shower! It was more than I could ever ask for. Loving family and friends, delicious food, beautiful decorations and generous gifts. I am beyond thankful and blessed for the shower and for everyone who was able to participate!

To be honest, certain things bring back memories of our pregnancy with Kian (not that these memories are ever far from my mind). These are all wonderful memories, but sometimes difficult too. So I have to admit I was a bit nervous prior to my baby shower. Though like I said, the shower was perfect and everyone made the occasion so special!

Thank you all from the bottom of my heart! We can't wait for you all to meet Kaia Rae! :)

Kian's Story

Kian was born on January 13, 2010 in Miami, Florida. In utero he was diagnosed with HLHS (Hypo Plastic Left Heart Syndrome). At one week old, after a heart catheterization, we found out that he was born without Pulmonary Arteries. His body had compensated and formed collateral arteries to supply his lungs with blood. We were told they had never seen someone born with his combination of defects and later learned just how rare (special) he is! His actual diagnosis is single ventricle, absent PA’s, MAPCA’s, unbalanced AV canal, DORV, heterotaxy, and asplenia. A bunch of letters and words that mean Kian is one of few in the country.

Kian spent his first 4 ½ months in the CVICU at Miami Children’s Hospital. He endured two GI surgeries, two heart catheterizations, several infections, hundreds of xrays/IV’s, two wound vacs, multiple intubations and other respiratory assistance. He has a g-tube and eats through that. After all that, he came out on top and went home on June 4, 2010! He is such an amazing fighter!

On December 1, 2010 Kian had his firt open heart surgery called Unifocalization. This surgery was done in Palo Alto, California. Kian did amazing through the surgery but had many complications after.

Kian earned his angel wings on February 8, 2011. He is and will always be our amazing little fighter. We find comfort in knowing that Kian is in God's arms, healed and happy. We will see him again one day!
