Update

Last night Kian had more issues with his IV's.  After trying to save the IV he had and some poking, they were able to get a new IV.  Guess where it is?  In his head!!!  And they still needed a type of IV that goes near the heart.  So he had to go to the cath lab today to get a line put directly through his liver up to his heart.  So Kian has a new IV in his head and a new IV through his liver. Our poor baby!  It is so hard to stand by and watch him go through everything and not be able to do anything to help him.  Thankfully, he is amazingly tough, did well with it all and is able to be comforted by us just talking to him and rubbing his head.

Kian's respiratory status has been slowly improving.  He still has a long road but he's headed in the right direction.  Over the next day or so the plan is to wean the settings on his ventilator.  Then Kian will go through something called "sprinting".  This is when they turn down the rate on the vent so that he is breathing completely on his own.  They do this for a short amount of time and then give him the support back.  Later on, he will "sprint" again but for a long amount of time.  This will be continued until he is strong enough to breathe on his own completely and then he will be extubated!

Please pray that Kian's new IV's last a long time and that his respiratory status continues to improve.  We are amazed every day by Kian's strength and thank God for our little fighter!

  1. I love the head IV...it is the best spot for Hope and even though it looks really sad, she can't get to it which makes it perfect.

You all continue to be in our thoughts and prayers.
